Why Does Pride Matter?
Before we kick off our 2025 UK Pride dates list, let’s quickly talk about why these Pride events matter.
Pride is a chance to celebrate the history, culture, diversity and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community and to promote equality, inclusion, and acceptance for all.
Pride events have a long and important history of advocacy and activism, dating back to the Stonewall riots in 1969 and continuing to this day with ongoing struggles for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.
We may have come a long way since the 1960s, but there’s still a long way to go. In even the most progressive countries, our community is still not equal.
Some people in power would rid us of our rights entirely, while homophobia, transphobia, and stereotyping are still very much an issue.
That’s why it’s essential to get involved and support these events by attending, volunteering, donating, or spreading the word. If you are a straight ally, here are some fun ways to support Pride.
Not only do Pride events provide an opportunity to have fun and connect with others, but they also help raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, promote positive change, and show solidarity and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Let’s make it a year to remember, and let’s continue to work towards a world where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live their lives with Pride and dignity.
