If you plan to visit Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, then this article is for you. In this guide, I share everything you need to know about the mesmerising Pink Beach on Komodo Island, including how to get there, how it came to be that pink and more.
Pink beaches are one of the world’s most unique natural wonders. Their cotton candy appearance combined with striking azure waters are truly a sight to behold.
While there are a few pink beaches in Indonesia, there aren’t actually that many pink beaches worldwide. So when we had the opportunity to visit Komodo Islands pink beach in Labuan Bajo, we jumped at the chance.
You’re probably wondering if the vibrant pink hue you see in photos is a result of clever photo editing. Because in all honesty, we wondered the same thing.
However, I’m here to tell you that Pink Beach really is THAT pink. And this article explains why, as well as everything you need to know about seeing it for yourself on a Komodo National Park Tour.
So let’s get to it. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Indonesia’s Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo.

How to Visit Komodo Island Pink Beach in Indonesia
To get to Komodo Islands Pink Beach in Indonesia, you will need to organise an island hopping tour within the Komodo National Park.
You can book your tour at any tour agency in Labuan Bajo town; however, if you’re looking to do a half-day or full-day tour we can personally recommend Red Whale Dive Centre.
Alternatively, if you’re looking at spending 2 days or more exploring the Komodo National Park, you can book private tours here.
It is worth mentioning that there are a number of island hopping tour packages depending on your time, budget, and interests. We talk about these in more detail in our article on Komodo National Park Tours.
What to Expect at Komodo’s Pink Beach in Indonesia
First, it is worth mentioning that there are 2 or 3 Pink Beaches within the Komodo National Park. One in particular on Komodo Island is very popular with organised island hopping tours.
Unfortunately, it seems that this has had a negative impact on the environment. I’ve heard reports that this one is very dirty and busy with tourists.
As you can see from our photos, the Pink Beach we visited was completely free of tourists and trash. This one is located a little off the typical tourist route on Bidadari Island.
When booking your tour, you will want to check which Pink Beach they will take you to.
If you are paying for a private boat tour, it will be easy to tailor your own tour. On the other hand, if it’s an organised tour, they may not be so flexible and you’ll probably end up at Komodo Island.
Although some editing has been done to these photos, the pink you see is not far off what we could see with our eyes. The contrast with the striking blue water was unlike anything we’d ever seen.
We’d heard mixed reviews regarding the Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo so held back on any expectations until we saw it for ourselves.
But in the end, we were blown away by just how Pink, Pink Beach was!
How are Labuan Bajo’s Pink Beaches that Pink?
You’re probably wondering how Pink Beaches got to be so pink? So I will try my best to explain in simple terms.
The beaches are said to get their colour from microscopic animals called Foraminifer. These tiny little creatures have pink shells and live in coral reefs surrounding the beach.
Consequently, pink sand is a mix of shells, coral, and calcium carbonate. Resulting in that stunning cotton candy colour you see in the photos.
Travel Responsibly
It should go without saying; however, when enjoying your time in the Komodo National Park, it’s important to be mindful of the environment.
There are many small steps you can take to becoming a responsible traveller. Here are some things to consider when visiting Pink Beaches in Indonesia.
- Be careful with any rubbish that it doesn’t fly overboard. Keep it secure until you can dispose of it properly.
- Do not leave anything on the islands, or take anything away – unless you’ve purchased it from a local supplier.
- Wear Reef Safe Sunscreen.
- Try to avoid touching anything underwater.
