How to Get to Patrika Gate in Jaipur
Jaipur is an essential addition to any India itinerary. It is one of the most popular tourist cities in the country and forms a part of the Golden Triangle Route. You can conveniently reach Jaipur via bus, train, or plane from all over the country.
Set 30-minutes outside of the city, Patrika Gate is located nearby Jaipur airport. For this reason, some tie it in when arriving or departing Jaipur.
Alternatively, you can take public transportation to the gate from anywhere in the city. Taxis, rickshaws, and buses are easy to come by in Jaipur.
For us personally, using the Ola Taxi app was the cheapest and easiest way to get around. Similar to Uber, you can order a taxi directly through the app. And you can even book a driver for the whole day if you wanted to.
Any way you choose to travel, there is never a dull moment when exploring Jaipur.

Best Time to Visit
The best time of year to visit the Jaipur attractions is from October-February when the weather is dry but not too hot. Keep in mind, however, that Rajasthan borders the Thar Desert. And the midday heat can be unbearable at any time of year. With this in mind, keep early mornings and late afternoons reserved for sightseeing. While mid-afternoon is ideal for a siesta!
To visit the Patrika Gate without worrying about crowds of people in your photos, it pays to arrive as early as possible. We got there around 7 am, and other than the cleaner, had the whole place to ourselves. Then afterwards, you can join the locals for a morning walk in Jawahar Circle Garden.
On the other hand, if you’d prefer more of an atmosphere, Jawahar Circle Garden hosts a light & water show every evening at 7 pm. Along with groups of local families, you’ll find a selection of food and refreshment stalls.
Time Required
You will need to allow around 2-3 hours to visit Patrika Gate and Jawahar Circle Garden, including travel time from the city.
Photography
The Patrika Gate in Jaipur is a hotspot for photographers; however, here are some things to be aware of before you visit.
- To use a tripod is forbidden in most tourist attractions in Jaipur, and there are usually security staff patrolling each area. Nevertheless, we arrived early and were able to snap some pictures without being approached by any guards.
- The best time to avoid the crowds is before 8 am.
- There are skilled pickpockets in operation in Jaipur. Keep your equipment safe and secure when out of use. We recommend this super convenient photographers bag: K&F Concept Lightweight DSLR Camera Backpack
Our Experience at Patrika Gate in Jaipur
Visiting the Patrika Gate was always a priority when planning our 2-Day Jaipur Itinerary. We were left mesmerised by the dozens of captivating photos flooding our Instagram feed. And naturally, we wanted to see the masterpiece with our own eyes. (Are you following us on Instagram? Follow us here!)
In the hope of missing the crowds, we planned to arrive at the Patrika Gate as early as possible. Bearing in mind we also wanted to get to the Jaipur City Palace for opening, it meant an early start. Thankfully, we had booked a hotel way outside of the city by mistake, and the gate was just a short 15-minute walk away.
We arrived at the gate around 7 am, and even from the outside, the Patrika Gate was mesmerising. Other than a handful of locals entering the gardens, we were relieved to find the gate mostly deserted. It was early enough that the cleaner was still mopping the floors. And the first ray of sunlight was yet to hit the enchanting pink monument.
As we entered the walkways of Patrika Gate, the sheer beauty of the monument took us by surprise. We spent at least 20-minutes marvelling the exquisite artwork adorning the walls – all of which depict stories from India’s rich and fascinating history.
We could see immediately why the gate is one of the most top Instagram spots in India. The vibrant colours and creative angles make the monument every photographers dream! Thankfully, we were able to snap plenty of pics before other visitors started arriving at around 7.45 am.
Our Experience at Jawahar Circle Garden in Jaipur
With some time to spare, we set off to take a walk around Jawahar Circle Garden. The circular gardens are said to be one of the largest of their kind in Asia. And walking among them offers a peaceful retreat from the strenuous city of Jaipur.
Featuring a jogging track and workout machine, you’ll often find locals here working out. Other facilities include a park area and picnic spots, so it’s a pleasant place to visit if you have little ones.
Where to Stay in Jaipur
Hostel – Hostel Lumb’s Nest – For affordable, clean & comfortable dorms or private rooms, we can personally recommend Hostel Lumbs Nest. They are located outside of the city, which may not be convenient if you are only in Jaipur for a short time; however, for longer stays it’s perfect to escape the hustle and bustle.
Budget Private – Blue King – If you are on a budget and wish to be a bit closer to the city attractions, perhaps Blue King would be more suitable. Located in the heart of the Pink City you can enjoy the view from the hotel rooftop.
Luxury – Umaid Bhawan – If you are looking to spend a bit more on accommodation, Umaid Bhawan is a touch of luxury in the city. The heritage style hotel boasts a swimming pool and rooftop restaurant.
